Are Inconel and Monel the same?
fundamental difference
Monel and Inconel both use nickel as the main metal. However, Monel contains copper and Inconel contains chromium.
To better distinguish the difference between the two, we need to address the strength of their dual principal components.
The difference between copper and chromium
nickel chromium
Monel or Inconel Nickel and chromium together are excellent at protecting against oxidation and high temperature corrosion. This would make them ideal for locations where there is frequent interaction with different gases and large temperature changes.
Oil and gas extraction, aerospace and pharmaceutical applications are good examples of industries that require nickel-chromium or inconel.
Comparison of Monel and Inconel
Nickel copper
However, nickel copper has very good corrosion resistance. Their significant advantage is resistance to seawater, hydrofluoric and sulfuric acids, as well as alkalis and more harsh acids.
These advantages are at play in the chemical processing, marine refineries, refineries, and coastal construction industries. If you work in these areas, you will benefit from Nickel Copper or Monel.
alternative features
Regardless of Nickel Monel's heat transfer properties and corrosion resistance, there are other factors that will influence your purchase.
On average, Inconel tends to have higher yield and tensile strengths. This tends to make it a better structural product if you want to use it in a chemical plant.
Additionally, while we wrote about how Monel performs better when it comes to handling seawater and corrosion resistance, it’s worth noting that Inconel 625 is particularly good at resisting seawater and marine conditions, if you’re looking for a compromise plan.
