409L seamless stainless steel

Grade 409L is a titanium-stabilized ferritic stainless steel most commonly used in automotive exhaust systems. It has good mechanical properties and high temperature corrosion resistance. In fact, 409L, a chromium stainless steel, can also be used in applications requiring weldability and corrosion protection. Although 409L stainless steel is prone to rust and is rarely used for decorative purposes, it has excellent gas corrosion resistance.

Although stainless steel 409L is primarily designed for automotive exhaust applications, it has been successfully used in other industrial applications such as home heating systems, power transformer housings, automotive thermostats, and fuel filters.

Type 409L stainless steel has a relatively low chromium content, making it a low-cost option for corrosion-resistant steel. In addition, it has good formability and welding performance, and also has strong oxidation resistance at high temperatures.

409L steel contains a large amount of chromium and low carbon, nitrogen and titanium content, which enhances the corrosion resistance, weldability and formability of its products.
