1.4550 thick wall stainless steel pipe

347 stainless steel is high temperature resistant, and this grade has good corrosion resistance at temperatures from 400 to 800 degrees. The grade is written as 1.4550 or X6CrNiNb18-10 according to EN specifications and UNS S34700 according to UNS specifications. The 347 material is a high temperature grade, designed for temperatures between 400 and 800 degrees. 347 stainless steel is not threatened by heat and has similar corrosion resistance to grades 321 and 304 stainless steel. In many applications, 347 stainless steel is similar to grade 321 (1.4541), and this grade can be easily welded. The most important elements in the 1.4550 material are niobium and tantalum, which give this grade a more stable structure. 347 stainless steel is used in the chemical industry, food production facilities, food storage equipment, refinery parts, and waste treatment plants.

The main feature of this grade is corrosion resistance at high temperatures due to the stabilizing effect of niobium. When subjected to temperatures of 450-900°C, certain grades tend to form chromium carbide precipitates in the grain boundary regions and the material becomes susceptible to intergranular corrosion. The stabilizing effect of niobium inhibits the formation of chromium carbide, thereby increasing resistance to this type of corrosion. AISI grade 347 has excellent weldability (a common characteristic of austenitic steels) as well as high mechanical properties that guarantee good ductility and is recommended for certain cold forming processes.

This is a very low temperature for a building component that should be resistant to scaling up to about 1050°C and to the effects of sulfur gases extensively, especially above 900°C.
