202 stainless steel is one of the 200 series stainless steel, and the national standard model is 1Cr18Mn8Ni5N. 200 series stainless steel is a low-nickel and high-manganese stainless steel with a nickel content of 10% and a manganese content of about 8%. It is a nickel-saving stainless steel.
Disadvantages of 200 series stainless steel (including 201 and 202 stainless steel):
1. The chromium content below 18% cannot reach a balance with the low nickel content, thus forming ferrite. For this reason, the chromium content in 200 series stainless steel is reduced to 13.5%~15%, and in some cases it is reduced to 13%~ 14%, its corrosion resistance cannot be compared with 304 or similar steel types.
2. In addition, manganese and in some cases copper reduce the re-passivation effect under the acidic conditions common in corrosion areas of deposits and crevices. 200 series steel destroys approximately 10-100 times faster than 304 stainless steel under these conditions.
3. The residual sulfur and carbon content in these steels often cannot be controlled during production, and the materials cannot be traced, even in the recycling of 200 series stainless steel materials. If Cr-Mn steels are not accounted for, they become a dangerous mix of scrap steel, resulting in castings containing unexpectedly high manganese content.
